Instructions for searching Database records in Power Tools
(updated February 22, 1993)
This section contains a large number of records that were originally
stored in a database. In order to load the database into Power Tools,
these records have been converted to ASCII text. This allows online
viewing and basic keyword search.
To view/display a particular ASCII text file, highlight its title
in the Power Tools menu and press <F1> or <ENTER>.
Once the text file has been displayed, you can browse through it
as you would any other text file. Or, you can keyword search
on a specific industry, HP platform, competitive platform, software
application, company name, or any other word/text string that appears
in the text of the record.

To locate a particular record:
1) Type "F" (for "Find") to initiate a keyword search
(do not press <ENTER> yet).
2) Type the word or text string desired, then press <ENTER>.
3) Press <F3> to find further occurrences of the keyword.
4) Press <ESC> at any time to exit the text file.

You can also browse the records quickly by realizing that each record
begins with the text string "Start of Article."
1) Using the keyword search instructions above, type "F" to Find the
text string "Start of Article."
2) Press <ENTER> to go to the first record.
3) Press <F3> subsequently to keep scrolling from record to record.
_____________________________________________________________________________
To print/copy a particular record or section:
1) Use the cursor keys to position the first line of the record/section
at the top of the screen, and press <ALT><M> (for "Mark top").
2) Use the cursor keys to position the last line of the record/section
at the bottom of the screen, and press <ALT><B> (for "mark Bottom").
3) Press <ALT><P> to "Print" the record.
4) Press <ALT><D> to "copy to Disk." You will be prompted for a
destination file name.
